Friends of the AMP
Jerry Garcia Ampitheater at McLaren Park
Friends of the AMP is seeking a $5,000 Action Grant from SF Parks Alliance for production and honorariums for performers, hospitality for volunteers and performers, expanding our publicity outreach and providing stipends for local youth to help with distribution of flyers, postcards and other materials.
We plan to involve new youth volunteers from local schools and youth programs and keep those youth engaged as volunteer docents during the concert series, helping as greeters, runners, stage hands, set up and break down jobs and to expose them to park stewardship.
This year's series of 4 concerts take place August 22 and 29, October 10 and 17, 2015. The concerts will include assorted genres of music and one program entirely designed to appeal to young children. The all-volunteer Core Committee and over 50 rotating volunteer docents, will produce and operate the production of the concerts. Our trained safety monitors will be equipped with vests and distinctive clothing and well-trained in walkie-talkie use, safety and customer service.
We work alongside members of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and Park Patrol. Our expertise in understating the operations of the facility has freed up park staff from many responsibilities at the venue during the performances.
Friends of the AMP created this unique series on our own. We are working to maintain the series this coming year because our community needs programs that nurture and showcase local talent and increases the awareness and use of the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and McLaren Park. Friends of AMP also advocates for improvements to the venue, some that will occur in the upcoming bond expenditures. We look forward to a time when the value of the program will be recognized for sustainable funding and support. This grant will go a long way toward funding our budget for the coming year.
