Northridge Coop Community Garden

This proposed project will build on the community garden started in 2011 within the Northridge Co-op Homes community of 300 low and moderate income families. They have built an abundant organic produce garden on the site that had no topsoil, and now has about 7000 ft.² of planter beds,  boxes, native plant areas and an orchard with 40 fruit and nut trees. Last year they just distributed nearly a ton of fresh organic produce free of charge to their residents and neighbors.

They would use the action grant funding to strengthen their leadership team in key areas to stabilize the program and keep on "growing on".  They would like to create a Community Outreach Coordinator position to help them connect their programs to other local organizations that are doing similar work, help them find needed materials and human resources in Bayview/Hunters Point. The would also like to bring on an Event Coordinator to plan an event at the end of our summer program to recognize the youth and young adults who have worked together to help the garden keep going on as well as the volunteers
